I see you doing hard shit

I see you. Getting sober is not easy though there are so many who portray it as such. It is dirty and difficult. Some may have their skin presenting issues with breakouts like you haven’t seen since adolescence. Some of you may not be sleeping for shit and see posts of those who aren’t encountering sleep issues or they’re not posting about it. Every time you see a post about some issue, I know there so many of you who are not posting that are going through the same thing. That is why it is so important to post your struggles and triumphs. Struggles to see that you are not alone. Triumphs to remind you recovery can happen. Relapses don’t indicate lack of intention. Alcohol is an addictive substance and has impacted parts of your brain that are not controlled by your frontal lobe cortex. That’s why so many of us would say I’m done at 8 am only yo be pouring a drink at 4 pm. That’s because your brain has learned that you drink everyday at 4:00 pm or 8:00 pm or while cooking dinner. Because you know that is going to happen – plan – find a meeting. (So many meetings beyond AA and are online) plan chicken nuggets and broccoli for dinner. Yes it counts and Dino nuggets are on sale at Costco. You could even get a bagged salad for yourself while your kids easy the nuggets. Chop up the nuggets and you’ve got a fancy chicken Ceasar salad!!

Get rid of all the alcohol in your house. Order your groceries at target for pickup. It’s free and you don’t have to go in the store!!! You don’t step into a bar. You eat protein throughout the day. Research shows that helps lessen the cravings for alcohol. When a real craving hits – eat! Call a friend! Ask them to stay on with you while you cook, do homework with the kids. Don’t stress about the food right now. Your body is ravenous because of being malnourished while you were drinking. It will level out. High protein levels in food can help decrease sugar cravings.

One thing at a time. Today – just don’t drink. If only the tree gets up this Christmas great. I finally put up the first tree in four years because it was just too much. You don’t have to go to the damned thing. Cereal is fine for dinner if that’s all you have.

Have a friend that has done this who will celebrate every moment you get sober. Every first time cooking dinner sober. Every load of laundry you get done while sober. Swiffer pads are great for quick cleanups. Perfection is not it. 6 days sober this week is great. Go for 7 days sober next week. Then hit 10 days sober. The. Shoot for 15. It all motherfucking counts and relapses do not mean the end. They are one more are of learning that you had to acknowledge. Triggers are only places where you need more support. Come here and post. These women are there right now to help you say no! You will never regret not drinking. Nothing is worth a hangover. And you will survive these hard hard feelings. I promise. IWNDWYT #1275dayssober
